TUMint.Energy Research GmbH

Behind the somewhat complicated name lies a simple idea: bundling the Technical University of Munich’s innovative storage technology expertise with industry – especially the area around Solid State Batteries The TUMinternational Energy Research (TUMint.Energy Research) is an independent research institution, that facilitates new research collaborations between TUM professorships and industry.

The centrepiece of our work is an extensive research project of the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy in the field of solid-state batteries. Our scientists are researching a promising advancement beyond conventional lithium-ion batteries: replacing the liquid electrolyte with a solid material. This leads to greater battery safety, higher energy densities and faster-charging. In addition to the development of new materials, we have also established extensive research infrastructure including a pilot production facility for large-format pouch cells at the Institute of Machine Tools and Industrial Management at the TUM. This comprehensive expertise will ultimately benefit the automotive capital of Bavaria and our industrial partners throughout Germany. Battery research is the field of the future and a key element of high-performance, affordable and sustainable electromobility.

In addition to the field of solid-state batteries, we are also home to the Bavarian Coordination Centre for Deep Geothermal Energy, which is intended to serve as a central point of contact for interested local authorities, energy suppliers and other geothermal energy stakeholders.
